The Random Exhibition
I had the opportunity to exhibit my work at an event at Beaverworks, a Leeds venue situated in a converted Victorian bed factory. We were given the basement space and were allowed to hang work pretty much anywhere. This gave us an excellent opportunity to really play around with the space and experiment with different installation methods to create a more immersive experience. I chose to use my latex skin pieces because I knew they are very versatile to display and I thought they would look strange and eerie in the dark basement space. For the skins that are easier to recognise like the hands and feet I tried to make sure they were displayed to accentuate them as best as possible, by nailing and zip-tying them up by the top edge and ensuring that the detail of the fingers and toes were in the light. For the bigger skins like the back and torso I draped them in various different ways on the pipes, cables and shelving, ensuring that if there was any detail like a belly button or a nipple that it was placed more prominently. On the exhibition day one of the technicians was also kind enough to set up a UV light shining through my installation which massively heightened its other-worldy feeling.
